I received a Balance Bill from my Provider. What do I do now?

Solidarity HealthShare utilizes the services of Advanced Medical Pricing Solutions ("AMPS") to review, evaluate, and reprice medical bills to help ensure that you are not charged beyond what is fair and reasonable. Certain charges included in your medical bill may have been determined to be ineligible or excessive. If so, the amount shared to your healthcare provider would have been less than their original billed charges. This is not uncommon, as many bills contain errors and improper or excessive charges, but it is possible that the provider may send you a bill for the remaining balance of unreasonable charges, or a "Balance Bill."

A statement sent to both the Provider and Member, called an Explanation of Sharing (EOS), ensures that payment of the Sharable amount or Member responsibility is fair and reasonable according to our Sharing Guidelines.

If you receive a Balance Bill, please call our Service Experience Operations Team immediately and 844-313-4999, for the next steps to work through the process. In most cases, the healthcare provider ends up agreeing with AMPS’ logic and payment calculation.

Please remember that there is a sixty (60) day window from the date of the initial Balance Bill to dispute any erroneous charges, so it is important for you to contact AMPS right away if you receive a Balance Bill.

Once AMPS has gone through the advocacy process and reaches a settlement with your provider, the provider will either write off the excess charges, or Solidarity will share into whatever remaining amount is due to the provider per the settled agreement. You will not have any responsibility to pay on the Balance Bill, so long as the Balance Bill advocacy process is followed appropriately.

It is also important to know your rights as a healthcare sharing Member. When it comes to disputed healthcare bills, providers cannot report disputed and delinquent bills to credit reporting agencies. If a provider does report your overdue bill to the credit reporting agencies, Solidarity, through AMPS, will work with you to repair your credit and hold the provider accountable.

We know that healthcare bills can be confusing, so please let us know if you have any questions or need assistance.
