Does my Solidarity Membership qualify me for a Health Savings Account (HSA) or a Health Reimbursement Arrangement (HRA)?

No, your Solidarity Membership does not qualify you for a Health Savings Account (HSA) or Health Reimbursement Arrangement (HRA).

What is a Health Savings Account (HSA), and what are the qualification requirements?

According to healthcare.gov, a Health Savings Account (HSA) is "a type of savings account that lets you set aside money on a pre-tax basis to pay for qualified medical expenses... You may contribute to an HSA only if you have a High Deductible Health Plan (HDHP)". A High Deductible Health Plan is a health insurance plan that has a high deductible above a certain threshold as set by the IRS each year.

Note: You can use HSA funds for eligible medical expenses. However, HSA funds cannot be used for monthly share contributions towards the Ministry. Be sure to keep detailed records and consult with a tax advisor to ensure you comply with IRS regulations and use your HSA funds correctly.

What is a Health Reimbursement Arrangement (HRA), and what are the qualification requirements?

According to healthcare.gov, "Health Reimbursement Arrangements (HRAs) are employer-funded group health plans from which employees are reimbursed tax-free for qualified medical expenses up to a fixed dollar amount per year." One of the main requirements to qualify for an HRA is that you must have health insurance.

Because Solidarity is not an insurance program, we are not and cannot be a high deductible health plan. Because of this, your Solidarity Membership does not qualify you for a Health Savings Account (HSA), or a Health Reimbursement Arrangement (HRA).
